Expert reviews aim to predict likely problems your users will encounter on your website, without the expense of actually involving the users themselves. The evaluation processes are conducted by our user experience experts.

We first get an idea of what your business is about, and what your business goals are. We also establish who your typical customers are in order to understand what your website needs to do.

Once we have identified the characteristics of typical users, scenarios and sample tasks, our usability experts then get to work reviewing your website. We use a process called cognitive walkthrough in which we simulate likely user scenarios by 'walking through' the action sequence for each identified task and noting problematic usability features encountered. We are able to draw on our considerable experience in the field of usability to compile a list of problems and offer realistic recommendations for improvement, based on recognised usability principles.

The great plus side of expert reviews is that they can be turned around pretty quickly, giving you rapid feedback on the user friendliness of your website. They will help to determine where your website works and were it is likely to fail. This first step allows you to focus future testing, evaluations and revisions on the areas that most need it.

However, we are keen to point out that although expert reviews can identify likely problems, they can only predict user reactions based on a series of assumptions about the users and their tasks. We strongly recommend that you use follow up expert reviews with usability testing to involve real users doing real tasks. While expert reviews can identify a good chunk of the problems, Usability testing offers far more insight into your customers needs and directly tests the effectiveness of your website.
